Specialty Parties Everyone loves an excuse for a party, and benefiting a favorite nonprofit is an especially good one. Here are a few ideas for creating something that is unique and especially memorable for your next get-together. Greeks Socks and Underwear Party A modern version of the old Sock Hop. Underwear is no longer only worn under clothing, camisoles and boxers are really cute these days, and because shelter guests are often in need of a fresh supply, we came up with this fun party idea to collect new, packaged ones or the funds to contribute some. This is a great spring or summer fundraiser, when attire is usually skimpier anyway (if you want to suggest an "only underwear" dress code), and is perfect fun for a sorority or fraternity. Be sure to include good music, drinks and food. You could even have a fashion show. Geeks RPG Marathon Use your evil powers for good. Host an all-night or weekend role-playing game event (all together or networked) with a small entrance fee going to charity. Get local sponsors to help with a grand prize. You can even dress up if you want ;) More Adult Events Shag (Carpet) Competition Are the facilities of your favorite nonprofit getting threadbare? Why not roll up those old carpets, throw a party, and help buy new ones? You can have a dance competition (shagging is a favorite Carolina dance), charge an entry fee for each couple, and ask for voluntary donations from non-dancers. Filmfest Collect the videos your talented friends and neighbors have made and have a filmfest. Charge an entry fee to donate to charity and get local sponsors to offer prizes for the best entries. You can also charge a small entry fee to spectators or charge for popcorn and soda. Music Concert A twist on the filmfest idea - gather more of those talented friends and have a concert, selling tickets, or set up a more permanent group that plays at special events, advertising that part of the proceeds go to charity. Also try to partner with corporate special event/community relations planners that support your type of nonprofit. Kids and Adults Cookie Party When the weather is stormy or cold, why not gather the kids and their friends and bake a few dozen treats for your local community kitchen? Be sure to have plenty of hot chocolate and sprinkles on hand. Potting Party Artistically potted plants are much more expensive than those in a tray, so why not share the difference with your favorite nonprofit? Buy or ask for donations of clay or plastic pots or have each guest bring their own, provide paint or stickers to decorate the pots, take a break for a meal or a few treats while the paint dries, then fill the pots with beautiful foliage and annuals. Later, have a plant sale, offer them to parents or your congregation for purchase, or add them to someone's yard sale. |
